Recipes Overview

A recipe is the core object in RecipesByScott. Each recipe can hold:

  • A title, short description, and free-form notes.
  • An ingredient list, with quantities and units.
  • Step-by-step instructions.
  • Prep time, cook time, and number of servings.
  • One or more categories for organizing and filtering.
  • Nutrition information (per serving). Some recipes have nutrition estimated by AI rather than entered by hand — those are flagged so you know the difference.
  • Original source images — the photos of a recipe card, when the recipe was created by scanning one.

Working with recipes

  • Adding recipes — enter one by hand, import from a website URL, or scan a recipe-card photo.
  • Finding recipes — search, browse by category, mark favorites, or use "Feeling Lucky" for a random pick.

A recipe can also be made public so anyone can see it without an account, and visitors can submit their own — see Contributing a recipe.

Recipes connect to the rest of the app: add them to a meal plan, or pull them into a shopping list to generate ingredients automatically.
